On Friday, February 26, 2010, The Charles Hotel received the 2009 Good Earthkeeping Award from the Massachusetts Lodging Association for its “earth-friendly” practices.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the MLA,” states General Manager Alex Attia. “We feel that awareness is the greatest tool available to improving the public’s “earth friendly” practices.”

Kicking off March 5, 2010, the Regattabar Jazz Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with Grammy-recognized artists, including David “Honeyboy” Edwards (playing March 10), who was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. The line-up at the renowned jazz institution at TheCharles Hotel includes an exciting three-month schedule of artists: Grammy-nominated Mike Stern (playing April 9 and 10), Dr. Stanley Sagov & Robert Pinsky (playing March 5) and Kenny Werner Trio (playing April 30).

The Regattabar's Kids Summer Music Series returns this summer Sunday, July 19 to The Charles Hotel. Kids and parents alike can enjoy this popular series with Brady Rymer and The Little Band That Could, Baby Loves Salsa with the Jose Conde Band, Laughing Pizza, and Ben Rudnick.

The Charles Hotel celebrates summer with its new complimentary bike program, annual Kids Summer Music Series, Regattabar Summer Courtyard Series, and family-friendly hotel packages. On Earth Day, April 22, 2009, The Charles Hotel introduced several new green initiatives: The Charles Hotel "Juice Bar" for electric cars, the nanoMAX™ small car detection system, Hotel Bike Program, and a renovation of its public space.

Regattabar, the renowned jazz institution in The Charles Hotel in the heart of Harvard Square, announces the line-up for its 2009 Regattabar Jazz Festival. The 24th year of this festival begins on February 6, 2009 with a three-month schedule of artists including Grammy-nominated Cassandra Wilson and John Scofield, and Grammy-winner McCoy Tyner.

Chef Peter Davis of Henrietta's Table at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge's Harvard Square released his first cookbook, FRESH & HONEST: FOOD FROM THE FARMS OF NEW ENGLAND AND THE KITCHEN OF HENRIETTA'S TABLE (Three Bean Press, LLC, © November 2008). As the bandwagon of sustainable agriculture, organic eating and “slow food” becomes increasingly filled with diners, home cooks and professional chefs alike, there are a few who have been riding it—and arguably, driving it—for decades. Chef Peter Davis is one of those few, and FRESH & HONEST is a monument to his love of delicious, fresh foods and the New England farmers and producers who supply them.

In its second year, Preferred Hotel Group’s philanthropic initiative “The Giving Room”, has tripled in participation, totaling 61 members worldwide. Through August 31, for every night a hotel’s designated “Giving Room” is occupied, 10 percent of the selected room or suite’s revenue will be donated to the hotel’s charity of choice. At the conclusion of the program, donations will be matched by funds from the Ueberroth Family Foundation.

Parents, get your dancing shoes on, as your kids won't be the only ones feeling the beat at the Regattabar's popular Kids Summer Music Series this summer. The second annual series returns with Grammy winning Bill Harley, who will kick off the series on Sunday, July 20. Shows will continue for the next three consecutive Sundays featuring Laughing Pizza, Debbie and Friends and Michael and Marissa.

Wednesday, August 6, marks the start of a four-week run of The Charles Hotel Burger Eats and Berklee Beats, where great local acts come together in the hotel courtyard with Executive Chef Peter Davis flipping burgers on the grill.
